Chumoukedima, Nagaland, June 6 (HBTV): Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha member Tokheho Yepthomi has resigned from the primary and active membership of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in Nagaland.

The Lok Sabha elections results were declared on June 4 and saw the victory of Indian National Congress candidate S Supongmeren Jamir win by a huge margin. Naturally, Yepthomi was expected to make way for the new Member of Parliament to represent the state. However, the former Nagaland minister’s resignation from the party’s primary and active membership itself has surprised observers.

The Congress party’s candidate, which doesn’t even have a member in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, defeated Dr Chumben Murry of the NDPP by about 50,000 votes.
